Miss Mayita
¡Hola! My students know me as Miss Mayita, and I am a proud La Salle parent as well as their former language teacher.

As a native Spanish speaker, sharing the love for my language and culture has become my passion. I was born and raised in Oaxaca, México where I attended college at the Universidad and taught languages at Beccaria and La Salle in Oaxaca for many years.
This is my 7th year teaching languages.

I love teaching Spanish and I try to bring much of my culture into the sessions as possible. Regardless of my student’s language objectives they all love to listen to music in Spanish, and learn about cultural differences and traditions, and have fun while learning a new language. I believe that learning a new language shapes not only minds, but hearts as well. And that by learning a different language and traditions, at any age, can make students more culturally appreciative and incorporate that respect into their daily and future lives. My biggest joy is to see that self-confidence build up and put into practice when we role-play, or when a student tells me that they were able to use what we learned in our sessions and talked to somebody in Spanish!

Learning a new language can be intimidating, but I believe that my enthusiastic, cultural approach to teaching Spanish enables students to acquire language skills in a manner that keeps them interested and motivated.
In my free time I enjoy spending time helping in a women’s shelter, traveling throughout Mexico, studying art history, dinning in traditional restaurants, painting, crochet and being immersed in the beauty, culture and wildness of Oaxaca!

I also love making churros! Yum!, watching Disney movies with my family and dancing!
Gracias y ¡Hasta luego!
Mayita’s patience with the learning process is certainly one of her greatest qualities as it inspires courage and confidence in the student.
Mayita motivates students to use the Spanish language as much as possible and inspire a passion for the language and the culture.
Mayita can find the positive side of any situation, and cheerfully communicate with students of all ages, about their progress towards their learning objectives.
Mayita is always looking for ways to get the information to stick with her students that inspire “aha” moments.
Mayita is warm and approachable, sensitive, and compassionate to the needs of her students to ensure that the learning experience is positive and enduring.
With the challenges of learning a new language, Mayita strives to make learning fun while creating a welcoming and respectful learning environment that motivates the students to persevere and be successful in their studies.
